More Entries For Biotechnology
Innovation Awards This Year
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 10 (Bernama) -- A total of 74 entries
were received for the Second Annual Innovation Awards
which was presented during the 3rd International Biotechnology
Trade Event, Biotechnology Asia 2006, here Thursday.
Last year, 42 entries were received from various universities
and private companies for the same award, said Dr Wan
Manshol Wan Zin, the organising chairman of Innovation
Awards.
The three-day Biotechnology Asia 2006 which features
a conference, exhibition as well as awards is into its
second day Thursday at the Putra World Trade Centre.
For this year, Dr Wan said there were 15 gold medal
winners, 18 silver medal winners and 23 bronze medal
winners, an improvement compared with 11 gold medal
winners, 12 silver and 12 bronze winners last year,
he said.
The innovation awards were opened to research works
and innovative products in the area of biotechnology
both from the public and private research institutions.
Awards under five categories were given out this year
and they included for outstanding achievements for best
products through application of biotechnology, namely
agriculture/ agrobased industry, industrial research,
medical research, healthcare and pharmaceutical and
waste-to-wealth. |
