Praises For BiotechCorp
And Malaysia's Biotech Industry
From Leslean Arshad
SAN DIEGO, June 21 (Bernama) -- It has been raining
praises for Malaysia's Biotech Corporation (BiotechCorp)
at the Bio International Convention 2008 here from
top global biotechnology-based companies.
Many expressed their appreciation to the company for
making Malaysia a favourable place to be for their
biotechnology operations.
US-based Trusgen, LLC president and chief executive
officer R.Bruce Register said BiotechCorp, which
provided the much important advisory support and
facilitation services, was instrumental in Trusgen's
decision to choose Malaysia.
"My experience with them has been positive. I rather
work with BiotechCorp if I need something," he said.
Trusgen has proposed to invest US$250 million
(US$1=RM3.25) in Malaysia, including the setting up
of a locally-incorporated company, Trusgen
Biopharmaceuticals Sdn Bhd, and a world-class
biologics manufacturing facility.
Register also said he believed that Malaysia was
well-positioned to become the biologics outsource
capital in Asia.
For India's Vivo Bio Tech Ltd, apart from Malaysia's
physical advantage to drive up biotechnology
industry, the support given by relevant parties such
as BiotechCorp and the Malacca state government had
prompted the company to opt for Malaysia.
"We don't see problems. We have been receiving a lot
of support," said its managing director Nagraj
Langka.
Vivo Bio Tech has proposed to invest RM450 million
to set up of an integrated biotechnology facility in
Malacca to commercialise bio-therapeutics in
Malaysia.
The contract research and manufacturing services
provider will hold 51 percent stake in a joint
venture outfit Vivo Bio Tech (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd
while its local partner Melaka Biotech 20 percent
and Vanguard Creative Technologies the remaining 29
percent.
EG Asia chief executive officer Suresh Marthaveron
said talented professionals within BiotechCorp had
quickly helped Malaysia in conquering the knowledge
divide.
He said with good government and private sector
support, it would be a short time before Malaysia
invents its own pharmaceutical grade products for
the global market.
EG was established in 2005 in Malaysia and has an
office in the United States. Its team members
include a mix of experienced U.S and Malaysian
experts in pharmaceutical and biotech industry.
