Eminent Speaker Series - “Deciphering the Leukaemia
Genome Using Next Generation DNA Sequencing
Technologies”
Date/ Time: March 25, 2008, 1.30pm – 5.00pm
Venue : Plenary Theatre, KL Convention Centre
Malaysian Genomics Resource Centre (MGRC), in
association with BiotechCorp, organized the Eminent
Speaker Series entitled “Deciphering the Leukaemia
Genome Using Next Generation DNA Sequencing
Technologies”. The invited speaker was Dr. Elaine Mardis,
Co-Director of the world's biggest genome sequencing
facility at Washington University, United States.

Dr. Mardis has been at Washington University since 1993,
playing a pivotal role in implementing genomics-based
research. Her recent focus has been driven by new
technologies that have made DNA sequencing 100s of fold
faster and cheaper. This has led to important
large-scale sequencing projects designed to uncover the
mechanism by which cancer takes hold and then
proliferates
The speaker series previewed how 21st century
cutting-edge genomics technologies could be used to
uncover "why some people are more susceptible to cancer
and how it spreads".
This event was officiated by YBhg Dato' Iskandar Mizal
Mahmood, CEO of BiotechCorp.
