This program promoted better understanding of
sampling and detection of GM plants, seed, grains and
foods and the application of GM detection methods in the
food supply chain. The workshop focused on the latest
scientific concepts and tools, to help build
understanding of sampling and analytical techniques for
the relevant institutions and personnel working on GM
Foods in the Southeast Asia region.
This 3-day seminar and wet workshop featured 1½ days of
presentations and 1½ days of hands-on training in the
laboratory. It also covered the status and development
of GMOs and approaches towards harmonization.
BiotechCorp funded the participation of 3 government
regulators who will be directly involved in the
implementation of the Biosafety Act 2007 i.e. the
Principal Assistant Director of the Food Quality Control
Division (Department of Public Health, Ministry of
Health), a Scientific Officer from the Biotechnology
Section (Department of Chemistry, Ministry of Science,
Technology and Innovation) and the Assistant Director of
the Plant Quarantine Office (Department of Agriculture,
Ministry of Agriculture).
