Langkawi International Dialogue

BiotechCorp was an active participant of the Langkawi International Dialogue held at the Berjaya Langkawi Beach & Spa Resort from August 5 to 7, 2007.  BiotechCorp opened a booth and the officers had a hectic time attending to the queries of some 200 visitors.  The visitors were mainly interested in the roles and functions of BiotechCorp that could assist the industry.  They were also interested in the BioNexus status and the Bill of Guarantees. 
   
Among the main objectives of BiotechCorp’s participation were to network and get more prospects from the international market, create awareness on Malaysia’s biotechnology efforts and promote Malaysia as a desirable destination for biotech business.

The theme for this year’s Langkawi International Dialogue (LID) was “Poverty Eradication through Human Capital & Capacity Building”. The focus was to explore possible solutions to human capital development, capacity building and poverty.

Among the participants of the Dialogue were the Heads of the Government from six ASEAN member states, seven Asian countries and 21 African nations.  In addition, the event also saw participation by top government officials, academicians, business executives, social activists, economists and youth leaders.

This was be the first time that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs organised the LID in cooperation with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of Malaysia (MOSTI) and assisted by Commonwealth Partnership for Technology Management (CPTM). Previous hosts were MOSTI and the Prime Minister’s Department.
The objectives of this event were as follows:

  • To promote Malaysia’s experience, expertise, products and solutions  in leading industries
  • To explore the opportunity to provide advisory services to foreign Governments on setting up similar initiatives and other G2G areas of cooperation.
  • To provide a platform for Malaysia to strengthen business networks and facilitate the exploitation of opportunities leading to future ventures and partnerships.
  • To give an opportunity to the SMEs to showcase Malaysia’s local products, arts and crafts.
To promote Malaysia as an interesting tourist location as well as education hub.
