3,000 ATTENDED BioMALAYSIA 2006 – THE LARGEST NETWORKING MARKETING PLATFORM FOR BIOTECHNOLOGY

BioMalaysia 2006, the largest biotechnology event in Malaysia was launched on December 6, 2006 by Malaysia’s Prime Minister, YAB Dato’ Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. The three-day event was organised by BiotechCorp in collaboration with the Malaysian Bioindustry Organisation (MBIO).

It attracted 3,000 delegates and was been described as being the “largest networking marketing and knowledge-sharing platform for the biotechnology fraternity in Malaysia”.

BioMalaysia 2006 comprised of a conference and exhibition involving both local and international organisations. The conference discussed the latest technological, business and investment trends, with expert guidance from an international panel of speakers and chairpersons. The conference was divided into three segments - Science, Industry and Finance.

The exhibition showcased companies engaged in life sciences, as well as research institutions, financial houses, legal experts, government agencies and other key players in the industry. It also featured products and research demonstrations, presentations within the exhibition hall, and dedicated space for one-on-one business partnering and networking sessions.

“With the participation of more than 3,000 delegates and 100 exhibitors, BioMalaysia 2006 was an outstanding networking, marketing and business partnering opportunity. It was also be an exciting knowledge-sharing platform, that brought together many of the finest minds in Malaysia and beyond,” said YBhg Dato’ Iskandar Mizal Mahmood, the Chief Executive Officer of BiotechCorp.

“This event also carved a way for the local biotechnology fraternity to extend their network and foster relationships through the one-on-one business meetings that were organized during the three-day event,” he added.

BioMalaysia 2006 was also a gathering for the local and international academicians. Among well-known international biotechnology personalities who spoke during BioMalaysia 2006 were:

· Dr Guy Van den Eede (Institute for Health and Consumer Protection, European Commission),

· Malaysia’s own Prof. Dato’ Isa Abdul Majid (Director, Malaysian Pharmaceutical & Nutraceutical Institute),

· Prof. Dr. Sazaly Abu Bakar (Medical Microbiology Department, University Malaya), and

· Prof. Dr Nazalan Mohd Najimuddin (University Sains Malaysia).
