Orchid Life is an agro-biotech company that is dedicated to produce high quality orchids and other floriculture products and services internationally. Our strength is in research and development of tissue cultured plants that are superior and uniform in quality through the adoption of biotechnology and molecular processes in collaboration with Universiti Putra Malaysia.

Our activities and research is led by our R&D Director and co-founder of Orchid Life, Prof. Dr. Maziah Mahmood. Our past and ongoing research includes:

1. Development and commercialisation of fragrant orchids
2. Induction of in vitro orchid flowering
3. Application of enzyme markers to predict flower colours and fragrance in orchids.
4. Application of DNA markers to determine the authenticity of orchid clones.
5. Continous improvement in commercial orchids (brighter flowers, stress tolerant, disease free, early flowering etc)
6. Effects of plant growth regulators to induce flowering in commercial orchids.
7. Increasing time and cost efficiency for orchids micropropagation

Current achievements:

1. Rapid micropropagation protocols of fragrant and commercial orchids.
2. Phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL) as a marker for flower colour in orchids (filed for patent)
3. Registration of orchid hybrids in international horticultural societies (Dendrobium Alya, Vanda Mimi Palmer Mutant hybrids, Dendrobium Tengku Anis-UPM etc.)
4. More than 60 hybrids and species are successfully available in tissue culture flasks ready for commercialisation.
5. Orchid clones developed have value-added traits (i.e. brighter flowers, robust plants with well predicted characteristics, disease free and stress tolerant)
