BIO MOLECULAR is a Malaysian company that produces pharmaceuticals using radioactive isotopes. The first BIO MOLECULAR biotechnology projects involve the production of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) radiopharmaceuticals for cancer diagnosis, as well as radiobiologicals for treating cancer.

These syntheses require the complex chemical linkage of bioactive molecules with a range of radionuclides. These radionuclides emit a small amount of ionising radiation which is used for diagnostic or treatment purposes. Some are synthesised on-site in a high energy particle accelerator.

The BIO MOLECULAR radiopharmaceutical facility will be built in techpark@enstek near the Kuala Lumpur International Airport. This will allow good logistics for regional distribution of radiopharmaceuticals around Malaysia and to the ASEAN region.

The joint-venture partner for BIO MOLECULAR is a Belgian multinational, IBA Molecular, which has a major radiopharmacy presence in North America. IBA Molecular is also a leading manufacturer of cyclotrons for production of radiopharmaceuticals.

The joint venture between BIO MOLECULAR-IBA Molecular, with appropriate R & D will also produce novel radiopharmaceuticals for use in Malaysia, and worldwide. Many applications of these radiopharmaceutical compounds in agriculture, veterinary science and other industries are yet to be explored. Most importantly, some of these new radiopharmaceuticals will help doctors diagnose and treat cancers, and other deadly diseases.

BIO MOLECULAR has set up the TEK Research Center for Molecular Science and is seeking local and international R &D collaborations. BIO MOLECULAR has been able to bring together the right recipe of equipment, production techniques and technical specialists in this area to achieve a successful outcome.
