Biotechnology Entrepreneurship Special Training (BeST) Programme |
INTRODUCTION
BeST is a 6-month intensive and structured retooling programme for graduates from all disciplines, wishing to enter the biotechnology industry and other related industries in general.
Combining classroom-based learning, laboratory work and industry internship, the programme is aimed at equipping the graduates with essential skills and knowledge for every-level positions within biotechnology companies or biotechnology-related companies.
PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES
At the completion of the Programme, the participants will be able to:
- Enhance the knowledge and skills of all graduates in technical, communication/language and business/entrepreneurship areas.
- Match the knowledge and skills of graduates with the competencies required by biotechnology industry.
- Give unemployed graduates relevant “real world’ skills as well as industry experience and exposure.
PARTICIPANT PROFILES
It is expected that the participants of this programme will be made primarily of graduates with a degree in biotechnology, medical science, agricultural science and other secondary disciplines i.e. business administration, marketing, finance, engineering and law.
PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION
¨ Development of work-ready practical skills and knowledge
- The programme curriculum was developed in consultation with leading industry and academic experts to impart skills and knowledge for an entry-level career in the biotechnology industry.
¨ Practical industry exposure as part of the programme
- The graduates will undergo an internship placement with biotechnology / biotechnology related companies for a period of 3 months to gain hands-on industry exposures and experience.
¨ Expertise from industry specialist brought into the classroom / laboratory
- The classroom-based and laboratory-work will include facilitation by industry specialists wherever applicable.
PROGRAMME EXPENSES
This programme is fully funded by Malaysian Biotechnology Corporation. In addition, the programme participants will also be receiving a monthly training allowance of RM 1,000.00 for the duration of the programme including the industry internship placement. Programme will be conducted in Kuala Lumpur and at all the economic corridors (Penang, Kuantan, Marang, Pasir Gudang, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching).

Muneeshwaran Vishnu a/l Arumugam, Class of 2008 graduated from Asian Institute of Medicine Science & Technology (AIMST), with a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology. Currently, he is working at KCK Pharmaceutical Industries as a Microbiologist.
Shiela Ho, Class of 2009 graduated from Monash University, with a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology. She underwent her internship at Henry Goh & Co Sdn Bhd and subsequently absorbed as a permanent staff holding the position of a Patent Scientist.
Siti Khatijah Mohd Rais, Class of 2009 graduated from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, with a Bachelor of Science in Biology (Genetic). Currently, she is working at Sime Darby Research as a Biotechnologist.
Cindy Lim Chin-Ly, Class of 2008 is an Operation Manager at DNA Research. She graduated from University Malaya, with a Bachelor of Science in Genetics & Molecular Biology. Previously, she was an Administration & QM Executive and has since been promoted to Operation Manager.
Jayasilen a/l Sivapragasam, Class of 2008 is a Marketing and Product Executive at Holista Biotech Sdn Bhd. He graduated from Universiti Putra Malaysia, with a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology.
Norfarhana bt Khairul Fahmy, Class of 2009, graduated from University of Manchester, United Kingdom with a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology majoring in Enterprise. Currently, she is working as a Research Officer at Institute of Medical Research.
Nur Rahilah Abd Rahman, Class of 2009 is currently working at Clinical Research Centre as Clinical Research Associates. She graduated from Universiti Sains Malaysia, with a Bachelor of Engineering in Biochemical-Biotechnology.
Nur Diyana Tajal Arus, Class of 2008. Currently, she is working at a multinational company, GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceutical as a Senior Professional Medical Representative. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from University Malaya.
